Victorious: Zachary Sfetcopoulos holds the coveted cross.

A long-standing tradition continued at Aquamoves last week — the Blessing of the Waters ceremony.

Greater Shepparton’s Orthodox community celebrates the tradition commemorating Jesus Christ’s baptism on January 6 each year.

The event entails a priest sanctifying the waters with a prayer and casting a cross into the crystalline depths.

Young Zachary Sfetcopoulos emerged victorious this year, cradling the sanctified cross and becoming a symbol of luck and favour for his community for the year.

Blessed: Zachary Sfetcopoulos with Father Berlis at Aquamoves.
