After two years of COVID-19 cancellations — and a major flood threatening to cause a third hiatus — carols in the park is back in Mooroopna on Saturday night.

Mooroopna Kiwanis Club is hosting the free event for a 37th year at John Gray Oval, and the night’s program is set to provide entertainment for the whole family.

This includes performances by local artists, choirs and school choirs, while a barbecue and drinks will available to buy, as well as LED candles and carols songbooks.

“Because the floods went through, there was a bit of doubt if we were going to do the carols again, (and that would have been) three years without (them),” carols in the park committee chair Tony Nappa said.

Due to funding constraints, there will be no fireworks show this year, but Mr Nappa is still confident of a great show.

“In my opinion, it’s a bit more contemporary and a bit more upbeat (than other carols performances),” he said.

“Mooroopna has tried to be different and improve every year.

“There’s a surprise at the start of the show, so people have to be there for a 6.30pm start.”

Those attending are being reminded to come prepared for all conditions, with the sun setting late at this time of the year.

“Please slip, slop, slap and bring your (insect repellent) because there’s going to be a lot of mosquitoes and be prepared for that,” Mr Nappa said.

“Wear loose clothing, cover up and bring your chairs and your rugs.”

Jeanette Powell and Anthony Brophy will emcee the event, which is expected to finish at 9.15pm.
