More rainy days, but less rain for Shepparton

Despite there being more rainy days than normal, Shepparton had a significantly lower amount of rain in July this year compared to the historical average.

In July, a total of 25.2mm of rain was recorded in the Bureau of Meteorology rain gauge at the Shepparton Airport.

Rain was recorded on 15 separate days, but the highest daily amount was the 6.8mm that fell on July 28.

The total rainfall for the month was far less than the historical average of 41.2mm over the past 27 years.

It is also significantly less than the historical July mean rainfall of 57.7mm recorded at the old Bureau of Meteorology weather station at Campbell’s Soups at Lemnos between 1965 and 1996.

The most rain ever recorded on a July day came on July 24, 2003, when 42mm fell.

The most rain ever recorded for the month of July came in 1996 when 79.4mm fell.

The 15 days of rainfall in July this year was slightly above the historical mean of 14.7 recorded over the past 27 years.

Temperature-wise this year, July days and nights were a little above average.

The day-time mean temperature was 14ºC — 0.7ºC above the historical average of 13.3ºC.

The warmest day of the month saw the mercury reach 17ºC on July 28.

The coldest day came on July 22, when only 11.4ºC was recorded.

There was a mean overnight minimum temperature of 4.1ºC for the month — 0.7ºC higher than the historical mean of 3.4ºC.

The coldest night came on July 17, when the temperature dropped to -1.5ºC.

That was one of only two July nights that dipped below zero. The other was -1.1ºC on July 19.

The warmest night-time minimum temperature recorded for the month was 9ºC on both July 5 and 6.
