Telstra has announced more works to Shepparton mobile stations, resulting in coverage and capacity declining and service being disrupted during the upgrades.

The works will take place from January to May this year, with the intention of improving 5G services with faster speeds and higher capacity.

Telstra Regional General Manager Jenny Gray said Telstra’s 5G network now covered 85 per cent of the Australian population.

“We’re continuing to expand our 5G network across the nation and new sites continue to be added to the Telstra network each week,” Ms Gray said.

“Where possible we will just be switching off the parts of the tower we are working on, leaving the rest operational.

“While coverage and capacity will decline during this time, we want to keep the amount of time the site is off-air to an absolute minimum.

“Telstra does have a number of mobile base stations throughout Shepparton which may help provide some coverage in any area we need to switch off.”

Telstra mobile customers will be sent text messages advising of upcoming work in their area.

Landline services, NBN internet services and mobile coverage from other providers will not be impacted.

Any calls to Triple Zero from a Telstra mobile when the site is off-air will automatically be diverted to any working mobile network for connection to emergency services.

This latest works announcement comes after Telstra announced works to a Kialla mobile tower last week.
