In a significant move towards enhancing community safety, Victoria’s Emergency Services Minister Jaclyn Symes has announced nearly $11 million in grant funding for CFA brigades.
The funding, part of the Victorian Government’s Volunteer Emergency Services Equipment Program, will empower brigades to buy new equipment vital for protecting communities.
Among the recipients in the wider Goulburn-Murray region are Shepparton Search and Rescue ($75,000 for operational equipment), Murchison, Clonbinane and Cohuna fire brigades ($65,334 for vehicles and appliances), Kyabram Fire Brigade ($60,253 for minor facility improvements), Echuca-Moama Search and Rescue ($38,715 for vehicles and appliances) and Karramomus ($5401 for operational equipment), Stanhope ($2256 for operational equipment) and Heathcote fire brigades ($128,333 for vehicles and appliances).
CFA chief officer Jason Heffernan underscored the significance of VESEP grants in providing substantial funding for life-saving equipment.
“This program provides $2 for every dollar of funding from the brigade and helps purchase equipment such as vehicles, trucks, tankers, watercraft, trailers and can also include minor facility improvements,” Mr Heffernan said.
“The contribution from the government towards equipment means brigades like Harcourt have a great incentive to fundraise in their communities and apply for a VESEP grant.”
He also highlighted the availability of special access grants, offering additional financial support for brigades facing challenges in fundraising.
