Shepparton has had a much wetter January than usual this year, with rainfall more than double the average monthly rainfall recorded in the past 26 years.

The Bureau of Meteorology gauge at Shepparton airport recorded 60.2mm of rain in January this year.

It is well above the historical monthly rainfall for the past 26 years, which shows an average of 28.8mm for the month.

It is also just under a third higher than historical data from the Bureau of Meteorology’s Lemnos gauge, which had an average rainfall of 42.6mm for January between 1962 and 1996.

In total, it rained for 12 days in January, with the day of heaviest rainfall being January 15 when 19mm fell.

This tally was quite a bit lower than the historical highest daily rainfall of 40.2mm on January 18, 1993.

Daytime January temperatures for Shepparton averaged 33.1°C, only slightly up on the mean temperature from the past 26 years of 32.1°C.

The first day of 2022 saw the hottest day of the month, with 38.6°C.

However the temperature did not remain at this level throughout the month, with only seven days exceeding 35°C.

The coolest day for the month was on January 5 on which a top temperature of 27.2°C was recorded.

The mean night-time temperature was 17.6°C which was higher than the mean temperature from the past 26 years, which was 15.4°C.

The hottest January night was on January 28 when the temperature dropped to 21.3°C, much lower than the hottest night on record of 29.1°C on January 12, 2010.

However, the lowest January night-time temperature of 11.7°C on January 20 was much higher than the chilly minimum of 5.6°C recorded on January 9, 2004.
