Museum calls on help to open more often

Tocumwall Railway Museum needs volunteers to allow for extended opening hours.

The countdown is on for the Toc Fashion Show, which will be held on Monday, May 29.

Can Assist Tocumwal are proud to be co-hosting this event with the Lions Club of Tocumwal and District, raising funds for both community organisations.

The parade will feature fashions from Ida Jane Tocumwal and will be held at the Lions Community Centre in Adams Street.

The fun begins at noon, with raffles and prizes to be won.

A light lunch will also be available.

Tickets are $25 each and can be purchased from Ida Jane Fashions Store, the Drome Cafe, Miss Daisy, at either of the op shops, or by calling Can Assist directly on 0467 926 557.

Don’t miss what is sure to be a fantastic event, fundraising for two incredibly worthy organisations.

The Tocumwal Railway Heritage Museum wouldn’t be what it is today without the dedication of many volunteers over the years.

The station and museum have been a project of the Lions Club of Tocumwal and District since 2005, with the museum being established in 2008 for the Centenary of Railway celebration.

Presently, the museum is only open infrequently and by appointment.

It consists of a detailed history of the railway since its arrival in Tocumwal in 1908, with another area dedicated to local history and displays of antique household items.

Tocumwal Lions Club members would like to open the museum each weekend, during holidays and long weekends.

Unfortunately, there are currently not enough Lions members to allow this to happen.

The Lion’s Club is seeking anyone who has a couple of hours to spare on weekends to help man the station.

A knowledge of local/railway history is not required.

If you would like to help, the secretary can be contacted on 0417 868 498 or tocumwal.nsw@lions.org.au.

Tocumwal Public School’s new artworks.

Tocumwal Public School has had some fantastic new art installed on the demountable building.

The artwork depicts the house teams mascots - Koalas, Wombats and Eagles - with messaging that reflects the school’s community connection to the traditional custodians of the land.
