Nagambie Little Athletics is in its maiden season and, with a $5000 sports grant from Coles, it is on its way to buying new equipment.

Nagambie Little Athletics president Clare Garrett said the sheer amount of work involved in getting a club off the ground meant they were seeking support from all avenues.

“There is a lot of local interest for the centre and we have lots of local families and schools lending a hand, but this grant will go a long way in helping us to buy a range of essential equipment to support athletes and volunteers alike, such as a multi-lane timer, first-aid kit, PA system, trolleys and shovels,” she said.

“Our aim is to deliver an athletics program to build skills, confidence and motivation for life for our local children and, at the same time, bring our local community together.”

The money was raised through the Coles Little Athletics Banana A-Peel held earlier this year, when 10 cents from every kilogram of Cavendish bananas sold in Coles supermarkets was donated to the cause.
