Nagambie streetscape to get an upgrade

Staged approach: The draft plans can be delivered in stages. Photo by Kristin Favaloro - Executive Manager Communications and Engagement

The second draft of Nagambie streetscape plans has been released and Strathbogie Shire Council is looking for feedback from the community.

The plans outline the potential relocation of public amenities, improved footpaths and street plantings, an alfresco area for outdoor dining and market spaces in the central median strip that interact with the shops.

The aim of the streetscape upgrade is to improve the commercial viability of High St, making the street more aesthetically pleasing for locals and visitors.

After community feedback from the first draft, more car parking and the retention of the divided road on the north-bound lane have been included in the second draft of the Nagambie Streetscape Plan.

Mayor Laura Binks said another change to draw to the community’s attention was a new roundabout at the southern entry to Nagambie, which was initiated to create further parking options.

The second draft plan provides about 200 vehicle parking spaces, which is an additional 25 parking spots from what is currently available.

Also included is landscaping on the Goulburn Valley Hwy diamond interchange roundabout at Mitchellstown Rd.

“We have worked hard to address the community’s feedback, while retaining the bigger revitalised green spaces, improved pedestrian access and revitalisation of the central business district,” Cr Binks said.

“There are six stages outlined in the draft plan at a cost of about $1.5 million, with stage one implementation estimated to cost $280,000,

“The staged approach allows council to progress works over time, but the plans also allow us to apply for funding opportunities that could see these plans come to life more quickly.”
