The neighbours of a south Deniliquin home have been credited with helping to save a home from being destroyed by fire.
Deniliquin Fire + Rescue NSW was called to a Hetherington St home at about 5.06pm Saturday after a fire started in the council provided bins.
Brigade Deputy Captain Les Booth said until firefighters arrived, the neighbours used a garden hose to try and limit the flames.
The occupants were not home at the time.
“The bins were right next to the home, and it’s very lucky the home did not catch fire.
“The bricks at the side of the home were scorched, and the fire did get into the eaves a little.
“If not for the neighbours, and if it had been noticed even a few minutes later, it would have been a different story.”
Dep Capt Booth said the cause of the blaze is not known.
