Neryl Walker recently took part in her first street art festival in Benalla, and she can’t wait for the next one.

“It’s been hot,” she said.

“But It’s been awesome. The town’s great, and everyone’s been really friendly.”

Walker said one of the things she likes about festivals is the interactions and getting to meet the community,

“Lots of people have stopped to chat,” she said.

“Which is great. People want to ask about what you’re doing and how you’re doing it.

“Until you get to a certain stage, people really can’t work out what it is, so they have lots of questions.”

For Walker, it’s been a bit of a family affair, and she’s been getting some help from her partner.

“We’ve been painting together, which has been nice,” she said.

The concept behind Walker’s art centres on female empowerment, and it’s a theme she’s brought to Benalla.

“My work always revolves around women, I guess making females seen and heard. Which is what inspired my wall.”

Walker’s mural is on one of the walls facing the Denny St car park.

She said once she was finished, she hoped to get a chance to meet some of the other artists and see their work.

“I’ve met a couple so far,” she said.

“It’s a bit hard to meet them while we’re all working, but I am looking forward to getting to know them all a bit better.

“And I can’t wait to see all the walls finished.”
