Four new community representatives have been appointed to Greater Shepparton City Council’s Affordable Housing Reference Group.

Tania Tonks, Terry Court, Kathleen Mills and Denise Moseley have been appointed for two-year terms while council has thanked outgoing community representative Bruce Mactier for his service.

Council adopted the Greater Shepparton Affordable Housing Strategy Houses for People: 2020 strategy in April 2020.

It aims to improve local responses to affordable housing needs across Greater Shepparton.

The reference group advises council on issues relating to affordable housing within the municipality, including identifying suitable sites, conducting relevant research, responding to the needs of vulnerable groups and promoting understanding and awareness of housing issues.

Mayor Shane Sali said the committee examined issues relating to affordable housing, social housing and residential development.

“A really good group, well represented,” Cr Sali said.

“Clearly affordable housing is at the top of the list, we then speak more broadly around affordable housing, social housing and general residential developments as well and what does this space within Greater Shepparton look like in the future, as well as acknowledging we’ve got a massive shortfall at the moment across those three criteria and we want to try and meet them as well as we possibly can.”
