A new diabetes clinic is set to open in Stanhope in late July led by Kyabram District Health Service (KDHS).
Announced by KDHS on June 12, the new clinic aims to ensure residents in Stanhope, Rushworth and nearby areas living with diabetes have closer access to care and support programs.
The clinic was established after community feedback to KDHS highlighted a high prevalence of diabetes in Kyabram and nearby towns.
KDHS acting chief executive officer, Jon Laughlin, hopes the new Stanhope clinic will enhance existing diabetes education and support services.
“We always strive to ensure our community has access to the care they need as close to home as possible,” Mr Laughlin said.
“The clinic will help clients easily access specialist information to improve education and disease self-management in rural communities like ours.”
The new service will offer flexible assistance, including telehealth, face-to-face consultations, or both.
The clinic will be led by a Diabetes Outreach Care coordinator, a registered nurse with specialised training in diabetes, and will coordinate personalised management programs to enhance diabetes outcomes in the community.
Director of Primary Health and Community Services, Carolyn Jones, said she hopes the new clinic will “reduce the need to travel to Kyabram or other larger towns for treatment.”
“Clients will be able to receive comprehensive diabetes care at Stanhope, including appointments with a Credentialed Diabetes educator, dietitian, exercise physiologist, podiatrist, and other allied health professionals,” Mrs Jones said.
