New festive display a delight

The community is still raving about Santa’s visit to the carols event. Now, a new Santa display is turning heads outside the Mathoura Business Centre. Photo by Zowie Crump

While last week’s visit by Santa was brief, but nonetheless enjoyable, the old fellow has returned for a longer stay near the Murray River Council Business Centre on the Cobb Highway.

This time he is accompanied by his team of reindeer and is proving a hit with passing motorists, especially those with children on board.

The display is the work of the team at the Mathoura Men’s Shed and is catching the attention of people passing through town, especially from the north.

Well done guys, it gets better and better every year.

Parents and childminders are being urged to warn their children about stranger danger.

There have been a number of reports in Melbourne of a man attempting to entice children into his white van.

However, it appears there has been a more recent report of a similar activity near an Echuca school.

We should all be alert to ensure our loved ones are protected – they’re too precious to lose.

Members of the Mathoura Gentle Exercise Group welcomed the Deni group to join them at Mathoura Bowling Club last week for their annual Christmas luncheon.

They enjoyed a delicious two-course meal and joined in a chorus of happy birthday for Mathoura members, Michael Henz and your very own columnist.

It was a day enjoyed by all.

It appears that Santa’s itinerary will take him to Womboota this weekend for the Christmas Tree event on Sunday.

Activities will get under way at 7pm, with Santa expected around 8pm.

Those planning to attend are being asked to take a plate of food and a small gift for children.
