New Javanese wall mural for Riverlinks

Wall mural: Riverlinks is introducing new artwork from local artist Christiano Dery Theodorus titled Javanese Shadow Puppets.

Riverlinks is introducing new artwork from local artist Christiano Dery Theodorus titled Javanese Shadow Puppets.

Continuing on from well-known local Tank’s mural Inside The Sound, Mr Dery Theodorus’s Javanese Shadow Puppets pays homage to some of the events coming in the Riverlinks 2023 season.

The new wall mural at the Shepparton venue depicts the classical Javanese puppet drama known as Wayang Kulit, which uses the shadows thrown by puppets on to a translucent screen.

Wayang Kulit is visualised as a complete art form, combining deep spirituality, entertaining storytelling and extraordinary musicality, and can include philosophical messages, political commentary and humour.

Riverlinks manager Ken Cameron said the new artwork provided a lively ambiance to the Eastbank foyer.

“We are excited to have a new artwork on the wall that directly relates to our upcoming season,” Mr Cameron said.

“Christiano has done a great job in bringing his vision to life on the art wall.

“We’re very grateful to him and look forward to enjoying this art wall over several months.”

The new mural will be presented on Tuesday, December 6 at 5.30pm in the Eastbank foyer.

To RSVP for the event, call the Riverlinks Box Office 03 5832 9511 or email boxoffice@riverlinksvenues.com.au

The Riverlinks Art Wall is located inside Eastbank and can be viewed from 8.15am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.
