First Nations artist Uncle Eric Brown has once again left his mark on Shepparton.
The artist has designed the newest member of the Moooving Art herd in collaboration with Greater Shepparton City Council and The University of Melbourne Department of Rural Health.
The life-sized cow named UniMoo is the first addition to the iconic public art exhibition ‘Moooving Art’ in 2024.
Situated in the ‘grassland’ at the front of the Department of Rural Health, it is a testament to the Shepparton education institution.
It’s painted in the university’s signature colours and features a design that represents the four main campuses of the university, with Shepparton at the centre.
The campuses are connected by groups within the community in which the university is involved.
The final touch to the design is the healing hands of the students.
Uncle Eric, who has created numerous artworks for The University of Melbourne in the past, worked closely with its students to bring UniMoo to life.
His involvement in the project allowed the students to gain an understanding of the creative process and the symbolism behind their hand prints.
Mayor Shane Sali commended Uncle Eric and all involved for their time and effort in bringing another cow to the Moooving Art herd.
“It was fantastic to have Eric creating this one with the help of some university students,” he said.
“It is great for them to understand the process.
“Eric has done some fantastic pieces in the past, and UniMoo was no different.”
Moooving Art, an ever-changing public art exhibition, celebrates the cultural diversity and inspiring region of Shepparton and the Goulburn Valley.
More than 90 cows and calves are in the herd, each created by a local artist.
Council encourages all new or existing students to discover all the Moooving Art Cows located throughout the Shepparton and Goulburn Valley region.
