No excuses left: Lovell on Graham St traffic lights

Graham St intersection is still waiting on upgrades.

State Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell says the Victorian Government has run out of excuses for delaying the start of work on the Graham St traffic lights in Shepparton.

She has called on the government to act now, saying a recent traffic incident highlighted the urgent need for safety upgrades at the intersection.

In 2022, then-Roads and Road Safety Minister Ben Carroll announced $700,000 to upgrade the intersection of Graham St and Goulburn Valley Hwy, including the installation of traffic lights.

There has been no change since the announcement, and Ms Lovell has brought up the issue in parliament.

“Traffic lights and other safety upgrades are long overdue for the Graham St intersection, and now that federal funding has been committed towards the upgrade, the state Labor government is all out of excuses for delaying the project,” she said.

“The minister for roads must get work started as soon as possible.”

Roads and Roads Safety Minister Melissa Horne replied to Ms Lovell’s question in parliament, shifting the blame to the Commonwealth and claiming the state was waiting for federal funding.

The Federal Government announced $2.2 million to upgrade the Graham St intersection in May 2024.
