Weeks of traffic detours, reduced speed limits and road works have seen important upgrades carried out to Echuca Rd, Mooroopna in recent months.
However, community members remain concerned about a section of the same road, which has been left untouched, and has “no timeline or ETA” for repairs, according to VicRoads.
VicRoads commenced road works on the section of road near the old Coles and BP in March, which were completed by early July.
The road was resurfaced, mending flood damage and providing safer and improved travel on the main road.
However, a section of the same road about 500m away was untouched, left with pot holes, crumbling road sides and surface damage.
A concerned community member reached out to VicRoads to question why, posting a screenshot of the response from VicRoads online.
VicRoads pointed to the Victorian Government’s $2.8 billion 10-year road maintenance and renewal works program and the 2024-25 financial year road maintenance program, which is currently in development, but ultimately revealed that there was no current plan to repair the remaining section of road.
“At this stage, we do not currently have a timeline or an ETA on when the Echuca-Mooroopna Rd, Mooroopna will be repaired. However, we will continue to inspect and monitor conditions in line with the Road Management Plan Act to ensure safety is maintained,” the response read.
In regard to the development of the 2024-25 plan, the response said that, “Works will be prioritised based on factors including hazardous assessments, road priorities and traffic data from across the network to help plan and prioritise future repair programs.”
The News reached out to VicRoads with further questions, but did not receive a response.
