Nominations open for Moira Australia Day awards

Do you know someone who tirelessly volunteers without seeking recognition?

Is your neighbour an unsung hero who makes your local community a better place for others?

Has your friend significantly contributed to the Moira Shire region and deserves gratitude?

Celebrate their efforts by nominating them for a Moira Shire 2025 Australia Day Award.

Moira Shire Council Chair Administrator Dr Graeme Emonson PSM said there are a range of different award categories to recognise outstanding individuals and organisations, including events, arts and culture, and community groups.

“The Australia Day Awards are a great opportunity for us to come together, recognise and honour local achievements, and celebrate the community members who make Moira Shire great,” Dr Emonson said.

“We are fortunate to have so many community-minded people in our shire, and the Australia Day Awards provide towns throughout the municipality with a fantastic opportunity to recognise their commitment, contribution and effort.”

Moira Shire Council is inviting nominations in six award categories – Citizen of the Year; Junior Citizen of the Year; Young Citizen of the Year; Community Event of the Year; Community Organisation of the Year; and Arts, Culture and/or Environment Project of the Year.

“Nominations will be honoured at individual town ceremonies to be held on Australia Day 2025, hosted by the Australia Day Committee representatives throughout the shire,” Dr Emonson added.

“With the success of the 2024 Moira Shire Australia Day events, this is a timely reminder to nominate the outstanding individuals and groups we have amongst us in our community.”
