Do you know a senior that gives their time, skills and energy to improve the community?

Perhaps someone like Moira Waye, the president of Pyalong Neighbourhood House, who received the Premier’s Award for Senior of the Year 2022 for her work supporting drought-stricken farmers.

For over 25 years, the Victorian Senior of the Year awards have highlighted the contributions seniors make daily through volunteering at neighbourhood houses, places of worship and on community projects that benefit us all.

Residents aged 60 and above, as well as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Victorians aged 50 years and above, are eligible for nomination.

Nominate an older Victorian in your life who makes a significant contribution to your community, through volunteering or supporting community groups.

The categories for the nominations include:

• Premier’s Award for Victorian Senior of the Year for outstanding achievement.

• Promotion of Multiculturalism Award for promoting the benefits of cultural diversity.

• Healthy and Active Living Award for helping to create active and healthy communities.

• Veteran Community Award for exceptional contribution to the veteran community — open to all who work with the veteran community (not only veterans themselves).

• Ageing Well Award for combatting ageism and promoting ageing well initiatives.

• Council on the Ageing Victoria Senior Achiever Awards for significant contribution to local communities and Victoria.

Every nominee will receive a certificate acknowledging their contribution, and recipients of the 2023 awards will be honoured at a ceremony during the Victorian Seniors Festival this October.

Nominations close on Friday, July 28.
