Benalla’s rail users will need to use a bus replacement service on October 30, with the north-east line between Melbourne and Albury closed in both directions from 3am - 9pm.
The closure is due to Inland Rail construction work.
The closure will affect freight and passenger services as Inland Rail carries out essential work at the Barnawartha North, Wangaratta, Glenrowan and Seymour-Avenel Rd project sites.
Site establishment work will continue at Seymour-Avenel Rd ahead of major construction to replace the existing bridge commencing later in the year.
At Glenrowan, construction of the new Beaconsfield Parade bridge will continue.
At Wangaratta, work will focus on piling for the elevator platform shafts and underpass ramps and upgrading the railway tracks.
Coaches will replace trains for the entire journey between Southern Cross and Albury on Monday, October 30.
Inland Rail is a nation-building project transforming how goods move around Australia.
Australian Rail Track Corporation Victoria and South Australian General Manager Projects, Ed Walker, said works will take place at 12 sites to enable double-stacked freight trains to pass safely and ensure everyday products can be delivered faster and more reliably around Australia.
“The track work possessions allow our construction teams to complete a large volume of work in a short period of time without being interrupted by train services,” Mr Walker said.
“The four Inland Rail sites are progressing well. Glenrowan and Wangaratta are coming along well, and we’ve started early works at the Seymour-Avenel Rd bridge site.
“We apologise for the inconvenience and thank local communities for their patience and understanding.”
