Northwood fire brought under control

State of the art: The Super Puma helped tackle the fire at Northwood.

It took more than 200 firefighters from the CFA and Forest Fire Managment Victoria to bring a blaze on Cowles Rd, Northwood under control on Friday, February 17.

The CFA warned residents of the out-of-control grass fire just north of Seymour as it was heading towards the Hume Fwy on Friday afternoon.

Residents on the west side of Northwood Rd were told it was too late to leave.

Authorities urged people in this area not to get in a car and drive, saying it was safer for them to stay and shelter.

Meanwhile, residents on the east side of Northwood Rd were told to leave immediately.

Residents south of Stony Creek and the Hume Fwy, including Seymour, were encouraged to stay informed.

The fire was brought under control with help from the Super Puma and Chinook helicopters.
