October warmer and drier than than average

If you thought it felt like summer had come early to Benalla during October, you wouldn’t have been far wrong.

The average maximum temperature was 23.2°C, which was 1.8°C above the long-term average of 21.4°C for the Rose City.

The hottest day was Sunday, October 27, when the mercury reached 28°C, while October 8 was the coolest day, with a maximum of only 17°C.

Despite a total of 32mm of rain falling on October 18 and 19, the month came in drier than average, with 51.4mm recorded — 13.3mm below the long-term average of 64.7mm.

The overnight minimum temperatures were close to normal, with an average of 8.3°C compared to the long-term average of 8°C.

The coolest night was on the first day of the month when the temperature fell to only 2°C, while it certainly wasn’t doona weather on October 18, when the mercury bottomed out at a relatively warm 16.5°C.
