Looking for answers: State Member for Shepparton Kim O’Keeffe outside parliament.

State Member for Shepparton Kim O’Keeffe is asking the Victorian Government to reveal its plans for the current Verney Rd Primary School site.

The school plans to relocate to the former Wanganui Park Secondary College site, leaving the current site vacant.

Ms O’Keeffe has also written to Education Minister Natalie Hutchins recently about the future of Shepparton and Mooroopna’s three empty secondary school sites following the creation of Greater Shepparton Secondary College.

Mooroopna Secondary College and McGuire College are still unused and Ms O’Keeffe asked for an update on the time frame and budget allocation of the relocation.

“I still have concerns about the full financial commitment to the full development and relocation of all students and teachers to the former site of Wanganui college for Verney Rd school,” she said.

“The current Verney Rd school site will leave another redundant site in a residential area.

“We have a number of former secondary school sites that are sitting locked up and redundant since the amalgamation of all four of our secondary state schools, which are all located in residential areas.”

Ms O’Keeffe said she had had many interactions and conversations with all parts of the community regarding these abandoned sites.

“The community wants answers and a plan for the future for all of the sites, and I call on the minister to consult with our community and provide the community with answers,” she said.
