Olympian heading to Moama

Big day in store: There are a raft of Australia Day events across the Murray River Council municipality.

Olympian James Willett has been announced as the ambassador for Moama’s Australia Day ceremony.

Mr Willett, who grew up in Mulwala, started in the competitive shooting ranks at the age of 14 and went on to represent his country on numerous occasions.

He has represented Australia at the past two Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo.

Mr Willett won the 2019 World Championship in the mixed trap pairs.

The 27-year-old will present an address on Australia Day during the Moama festivities at Moama Recreation Reserve’s main oval from 7.30am.

North Melbourne champion Brent Harvey is the ambassador for the Mathoura Australia Day festivities.

Harvey, who has played more AFL games than any other player in history, joins State Member for Murray Helen Dalton at the breakfast from 8am at Soldiers Memorial Park.

All of the Australia Day events across Murray River Council, which also include Barham, Moulamein, Wakool, Tooleybuc and Koraleigh, are free to attend, with breakfasts also free.
