It appears that Cobram’s budding young artists have embraced the Lions Club’s annual art show again this year, with the largest number of entries received in the four years since the first show began.

A change of venue to Killara House at the Showgrounds proved to be a winner, offering perfect lighting for young hopefuls to showcase their stunning artwork and photography.

Children aged 10 to 14 years competed for two major awards, the Lions International Peace Poster and the Moira Shire Tourism Poster.

The overall winner of the Lion’s International Peace Prize was Angelina McKay, who was presented with $250 in prize money for her unique artwork, comprising flags of the world.

Angelina was also the overall winner in the 10 to 14 years age group.

Runner-up was Aroha Kautai, who received her prize at Cobram Anglican Grammar the following day from Lions Club member Ron Simon.

The artwork by both girls were excellent, eye-catching and thought-provoking.

Coen Pang was presented with a cash award for his winning entry in the Moira Tourism Poster competition.

It was a bright, summer scene depicting Thompson’s Beach and the Murray River.

Lexi Bruce was runner-up and also received a cash prize.

The overall winner in the over 15 years/adult section was Tomoko Smith.

Tomoko was presented with prize money of $250 for her magnificent drawing of three kookaburras.

Also, this year a separate photographic section was introduced with just a few entries; however, the interest shown, particularly on the day of the awards presentation, indicates the section has capacity to grow dramatically.

The overall winner in photography was Liana Dundon, who submitted a stunning portrait photograph of a horse’s head, while second prize went to Shirley Coldwell.

Two awards were presented to Liana’s two sons.

Corey Dundon received the people's choice award and Harley Dundon, 10, received a special encouragement award.

Cobram Lion Janet Austin said the club was delighted with the support shown this year and thrilled that the show was continuing to grow.

“Every school participated, which is a great thrill, and the quality of the artwork is just amazing,” she said.

“The club is so very grateful for the fantastic support it has received from Cobram business people and the community for the art show, and all winners and runners-up definitely appeared delighted with their prizes.

“Total prizes presented were valued at $1000, together with several art-related gifts and vouchers.”

If you didn’t make it to the show, there is an exhibition of most of the winners’ and participants’ artwork on display until the end of September at Cobram Library.
