Collisions disrupt morning traffic in Shepparton

Two crashes disrupted traffic in Shepparton on Wednesday morning.

Just after 9am a car was involved in a collision travelling north at the intersection of Doyles Rd and the Goulburn Valley Fwy in Arcadia.

Police said the 19-year-old P1 probationary driver ran into the barricades on the side of the Goulburn Valley Fwy after allegedly falling asleep at the wheel.

Senior Constable Matthew Farren from Shepparton Highway Patrol said the young driver was lucky to have walked away without any injuries.

Shortly after 9.30am, three cars were damaged in a collision on Wyndham St, between Regent St and Balaclava Rd.

Five emergency service vehicles responded to the incident.

The male driver of a red Holden Commodore, in his late 30s or early 40s, allegedly drifted into parked cars and was taken into custody to be later interviewed over the collision.

There were no injuries at the scene.

Traffic was reduced to one lane in the northbound direction while the debris was cleared.
