Goulburn Valley Pakistani community members will come together this weekend for a donation drive to help raise money for urgently needed supplies.

Much of Pakistan is still underwater following floods that left more than a third of the country inundated in September.

More than half a million homes were destroyed by the floods and at least 2000 people were killed. More than 30 million people were displaced.

The Pakistani Association of the Goulburn Valley will hold a donation drive at Africa House on Poplar Ave in Shepparton on Sunday, October 16.

Money raised will go towards providing tents, food, clean water and medicine, all of which are desperately needed in Pakistan.

PAGV president Muhammad Abdullah said the afternoon would involve tea and biscuits and light refreshments.

“There is now a second disaster: flooding and the rains have done the damage, rains have eased but now it’s disease,” Dr Abdullah said.

“The job of relocating people has just begun, and all the crops and livestock have been destroyed.”

He said there would need to be years of work to try to recover from the impact of the floods, and he encouraged people to help out.

The community has also asked for funding directly to the PAGV, which it will transfer to aid organisations on the ground.

The event will be held on October 16 from 2.30pm at Africa House.

The PAGV’s account details are BSB: 063 527, account number: 1090 1371.
