The Victorian Government has announced recovery support payments are available for those impacted by recent major emergencies across the state.
Payments of $640 per adult and $320 per child, up to a maximum of $2240 per family, are now available for eligible community members whose homes have been damaged by storms or bushfires in Victoria.
People who have been through a major emergency, such as the February 2024 Victorian storms, February 2024 Western Victorian bushfires, December 2023 to mid-January 2024 Victorian storms and floods or the October 2022 Victorian floods, can apply for a recovery support payment.
You may be eligible for a recovery support payment if one of these events directly impacted your property, business or mental health. They can help you pay for essential items, including food, clothing, medication and accommodation.
However, Euroa residents experiencing ongoing power outages whose homes have not been damaged by the listed storm, flood or bushfire events or were not in an evacuation warning area don’t meet the requirements to be eligible for a recovery support payment.
State Member for Euroa Annabelle Cleeland said although she believed the scope of the payments was limited, she continued to push for increased compensation for those impacted by frequent power outages and increased flood recovery payments.
“While these payments will be of great assistance to some, there are still too many people doing it tough due to the regular power outages across our region,” Ms Cleeland said.
“Too many people are stuck with outrageous bills, damaged equipment and loss of significant business due to the outages.
“On top of that, there are several residents, farmers and businesses all still feeling the impact of floods in our region, too.
“I have raised these issues in parliament and will continue to push to make sure our community gets the support they need, and deserve, to rebuild.”
The government is advising people impacted by an emergency not listed above to contact their local council to find support in their area.
