Deadline day for pet registrations in Greater Shepparton is nigh.
Greater Shepparton City Council has reminded residents that they should register or renew their animals’ registration before Wednesday, April 10.
Registrations for cats and dogs over three months of age are a legal requirement and are free for pets under six months of age.
Penalties apply for failing to register or renew the registration of a dog or cat with on-the-spot infringements or legal action possible if an animal is found to be unregistered.
Council’s Sustainable Development Director Geraldine Christou said registrations not only helped reunite residents with their pets if they got lost, but they also helped support important services for the community.
“Registration is easy and affordable, costing as little as $50 per year for a desexed pet, with additional discounts for pensioners,” she said.
“Many pet owners don’t know that their registration fees contribute towards the animal shelter, animal rangers and prosecution of dangerous dogs and animal cruelty offences.”
Residents with pets that have previously been registered should have received a renewal notice in the mail.
People with an unregistered pet can register them through the council website or by visiting the customer service team at the council’s Welsford St offices.
