A woman has been fined after stealing petrol from a Shepparton service station.

Elaine Croxford, 62, of Shepparton, pleaded guilty in Shepparton Magistrates’ Court to theft.

Prosecutor Senior Constable Luke Lund said Croxford filled her car with 47 litres of unleaded petrol, worth $87, at the 7-Eleven on Numurkah Rd on June 22 last year, and drove off without paying.

Croxford’s solicitor Emma King told the court her client could not afford fuel that day.

Ms King also said her client’s cognitive capacity was reduced, and she worried about her ability to do a corrections order.

Croxford was fined $300 and ordered to pay the $87 owed to the petrol station.
