It seems fitting that the president of the Eastern Goulburn Valley branch of the Country Women’s Association, Helen Sands, referred to their upcoming event as “a bit old-fashioned”.
Because, like the classic drink itself, it’s unabashedly timeless.
On March 15 and 16, the group will host their annual Creative Arts Exhibition.
There will be a display of handcrafted items, home industries, floral art, horticulture, and photography – each the product of idle hands and loving labour.
“The idea of the exhibition is to showcase some of our group’s exquisite work, but there’s a lot of us who contribute,” Ms Sands said.
While traditional mediums will be the primary exhibits, the exhibition will also feature a touch of modernity.
“We try to change it a bit each year – varying crafts, new and innovative things ... it’s quite worthwhile,” Ms Sands said.
In addition to trading tables and items for sale, experienced artisans will provide on-site craft demonstrations for all to participate.
Ms Sands said their CWA group looked forward to sharing their skills and giving attendees a lovely day out.
Foremost, the exhibition is another avenue in which the CWA Eastern Goulburn Valley Group can assist the local community.
“We usually make over $1000, which we can then contribute to Marian House, Riding for the Disabled, GV Hospice, and support disadvantaged students at Greater Shepparton Secondary College,” Ms Sands said.
“Our community activities are made to benefit, not just financial disadvantage, but in many other ways.”
Commemorating their 70th annual general meeting last week has only intensified the group’s motivation to support the community.
They plan to do so through various initiatives, starting with the Creative Arts Exhibition.
CWA Eastern Goulburn Valley Group’s Creative Arts Exhibition is on Friday, March 15, from 2.30pm to 5pm, and Saturday, March 16, from 10am to 4pm, at Central Park Reserve, Central Ave, Shepparton East.
Devonshire tea and light refreshments available. Admission is $5, and the event is cash only.
