Founded in 1992 by Paul Klymenko, Peter Shenstone and former ARK UK member Jon Dee, Planet Ark is a not-for-profit environmental organisation that has pioneered improving humans’ ecological impacts on our planet.
In 1996, Planet Ark started National Tree Day, which has since grown into Australia’s largest community tree planting.
Since its inception, 27 million trees have been planted, five million people have volunteered for the cause and 10 million hours of their time have been donated to the noble cause.
This year, National Tree Day celebrations will be held on Sunday, July 28, and the Greater Shepparton City Council has invited community members to connect with nature and join the National Tree Day community planting event, which will be taking place at Yakka Basin Reserve in Shepparton from 10am to noon.
“We invite the community to come along with the family and enjoy a day outdoors at National Tree Day in the Yakka Basin Reserve”, City of Greater Shepparton Mayor Shane Sali said.
“Planting a tree is a wonderful way to give back to the community and the perfect activity to teach kids how important it is to have a healthy environment.”
Greater Shepparton City Council staff and volunteers will be on-site to assist you, and plants, stakes, guards, mats, gloves, and tools will all be provided.
There will be a free BBQ, and hot drinks will be available for purchase from a coffee van.
