Shepparton’s platypus fever continues.
RiverConnect is hosting a ‘Spotting Platypus’ day later this month.
It will aim to equip participants with the tools to spot a platypus, inspired by the Australian Conservation Foundation’s Platy-Project.
ACF has asked Australians everywhere to become ‘citizen scientists’ and get out to their local waterways to look for the mysterious creature and upload their sightings to the ACF website.
The hope is that by getting a decent idea of where the platypuses are most and least populated, scientists can analyse the data and try to understand why the population of the creature as a whole is dwindling.
By doing this, they aim to identify and stop the problem before we lose the native animal completely.
The event will be from 5.30pm to 6.30pm at Jordan’s Bend (off Jordan Place, Shepparton) on Wednesday, September 27.
