Five people make a run for it

Five people fled from a stolen vehicle that crashed into a traffic pole at 2.40am on August 15.

Moama Police were patrolling around Moama when they witnessed a silver dual cab utility travelling at a high speed on Meninya St.

When police approached the intersection between Meninya St and Cobb Hwy, they saw the vehicle had collided heavily with a traffic pole and that the offenders had attempted to flee the scene.

Inspector Paul Huggett of the Murray River Police District said three of the five offenders have been detained.

“We are aware of who the other two offenders are,” he said.

“The vehicle has been forensically examined and we have charges pending.”

Following the collision, ambulance attended the scene and assessed the offenders.

The vehicle was stolen from an address in Deniliquin and may have been involved in another illegal activity between Deni and Moama.

Moama Police are continuing to investigate.

Drugs allegedly found in vehicle

A 35-year-old male has been caught with drugs in the air vent of his vehicle.

At 9.40pm on August 16, Moama police stopped a vehicle with a Victorian registration on Francis St, Moama.

Upon a search of the vehicle, police discovered a ziplock bag containing a white crystal substance jammed in the air vent.

The 35-year-old male admitted to it being methamphetamine.

At 9.40pm on August 16, police stopped a Victorian registered vehicle on Francis St, Moama and spoke to a 35-year-old male.

The man will receive a court attendance notice for Moama Local Court.

Stolen fuel

About 200 litres of fuel was stolen from machinery on a rural property in Moama.

The property, located on Barmah Rd, was targeted between the hours of 6.00pm on August 12 and 8.30am on August 13.

Police are currently investigating the matter.

Crime spike in Mathoura

Inspector Paul Huggett of the Murray River Police District said police are aware of a small crime spike in the Mathoura area.

Insp Huggett reminded people to take the right steps to protect their property and personal items.

“We’re calling on all residents in Mathoura to be vigilant, to secure their premises and contact the police if an offence has occurred,” he said.

“We need people to continue to report to the police so that we have the intelligence to target certain individuals.”

Bike returned home

Between 7.30pm on August 11 and 7.30am on August 12, a BMX bike was stolen from a Livingstone St address in Mathoura.

On August 14, a family member allegedly noticed a young person riding a bike matching the description and contacted the police.

Police went to the home of the young person and found the bike located within the shed.

The bike has been returned and police are investigating.

Car stolen

A maroon Nissan Micra was stolen from a residence overnight on August 11 and put back at the same address on Mathoura St, Mathoura.

The vehicle was stolen then returned between the hours of 5pm on Aug 11 and 11am on Aug 12.

Upon returning to the premises, the victim noticed the vehicle had been parked differently to how she had left it, the vehicle had mud all over it and the seatbelts were still clipped in.

Offenders also gained access to the premises and a number of personal items and jewellery was stolen.

Inspector Paul Huggett of the Murray River Police District said the vehicle had been forensically examined and police were investigating.

“Protect your property, be self aware and lock up,” he said.

Stolen goods

Sometime between Saturday, August 13 and Sunday, August 14, a Mathoura resident reported an amount of items stolen from an outdoor refrigerator.

Moama Police are currently investigating.

Theft at Echuca Golf Course

The Echuca Back 9 Golf Course was burglarised overnight on Monday, August 15 to Tuesday, August 16.

Detective Senior Constable James Scambler of the Echuca Police said unknown offenders arrived in a white utility and broke into machinery sheds.

“A vehicle that had been kindly donated to the club for use by the greenkeepers and various tools that are used for golf maintenance are missing,” he said.

Burglaries at construction sites

Echuca Police have warned of a number of burglaries, attempted burglaries and thefts have occurred on houses under construction in the new Echuca Fields Estate over the last week.

Police have reminded tradespeople to ensure they have their tools and materials secured at job sites overnight.
