A ute stolen from Deniliquin on Friday and which led NSW and Victorian police on pursuits has been recovered in Victoria.
The ute is alleged to have been stolen from a Sloane St home in south-east Deniliquin about 12.05am, by two men.
Deniliquin Detective Chief Inspector Jy Brown said later that morning, between 10am and 11am, police spotted the ute and gave chase.
“The chase led police to Aratula Rd, Flanagans Rd and the Riverina Highway, and the suspects tried to ram police on a number of occasions,” Det Chief Insp Brown said.
“The car entered onto local farms, breaking through fences, and was eventually able to evade police.
“The ute was seen crossing into Victoria and was followed by police.
“We believe the men left the car in Victoria, near Elmore, where another was stolen. That car was then taken to Melbourne.”
Det Chief Insp Brown said police investigations into this latest theft and others across the district continue, as well as a series of business and resident break-ins.
He said the investigation will include looking for potential links.
“We ask anyone with information to please come forward, by contacting the Deniliquin Police Station on 5881 9299 or CrimeStoppers on 1300 333 000.
“Meanwhile, we ask the community to remain extra vigilant.
“Secure your cars and belongings, notify neighbours if you’re going to be away and put away and lock up items overnight. This extends to our visitors camping or at local caravan parks.
“People are also welcome to notify police their homes will be vacant these holidays, by coming into the station and filling out a form. This helps us task our police to keep an eye on things.”
