Police are warning self storage shed tenants to ensure that their valuables are secure in light of an alleged robbery on Wednesday, February 21.

Storage units at TJS Storage Sheds on Schubert St, Cobram, were broken into by offenders in a white Mercedes Benz Sprinter Commercial van, which at the time was bearing stolen Victorian registration plates.

Police are warning storage unit tenants to ensure that they have a good quality padlock which cannot be cut easily.

Other precautions include not storing valuable items (money, documents) within the storage units and to conduct regular checks to ensure that the property is safely stored and the unit is secured.

Any sign of a break-in or suspicious activity should be reported to the police.

Cobram Senior Sergeant Nathan Ractliffe said the police wanted to work with the community to ensure that any property stored in self storage sheds is secure.

“Basically our view is that we want people to use these facilities without fear of theft or burglary of the units and we want to work with storage facility owners and individuals to prevent and deter storage unit theft,” he said.
