He said police received information a woman had allegedly been threatened by a man with a gun at a house in Yarrawonga.

He then went to Sacred Heart Primary School and allegedly made further threats.

Police said Mr Turvey stole a ute from construction workers at the school.

They are still looking for this ute – a white coloured Toyota HiLux dual cab ute with the registration 1RA-8AN.

Act Supt Henry said the incident initially started in Katandra West on Monday, where the man allegedly shot a gun in the air as he was approached by police who had gone to the property with an arrest warrant.

He then went to a random house in Youanmite where, still allegedly armed with gun, he demanded the occupant drive him to Finley.

Act Supt Henry also said police did not know how Mr Turvey got from Finley to Yarrawonga where he was next sighted.

He said extra police had been brought in from Melbourne to work with local officers to find Mr Turvey.

He pleaded with people not to approach him if they saw him, and instead to call 000.

“It is very concerning offending where he would take people and vehicles while armed with a firearm,”

“They are high impact offences.

“And it must have been very traumatic for those involved.

“Anything involving a firearm is a recipe for disaster.”

Meanwhile, details have emerged from the incident in Finley on Monday relating to the current multi-state man hunt happening across northern Victoria and southern NSW.

Police with riot gear and assault rifles descended on Finley on Monday evening, stemming from an incident allegedly involving a firearm across the border in Victoria earlier that day.

Police surrounded a Finley St home in Finley believing a man who allegedly approached Victorian police with a gun at Katandra West might be hiding inside.

After evading police, he allegedly kidnapped a man in Youanmite and forced him - reportedly at gunpoint - to drive him to Finley.

Police arrived at the Finley home about 5.20pm, startling nearby residents.

One resident, who was in her yard with her children and asked not to be named, said the operation continued for the next five hours.

“An SUV screeched to a halt outside the house,” she told the Southern Riverina News.

“People got out in pairs, some with riot shields and some with rifles.

“The weapons were trained on the house, and once they had a perimeter they were joined by local police to surround it.”

Police ended the standoff after forcing open the door to the home about 11pm. Turvey was not inside.
