Campaspe Shire Council has started the demolition of the Rochester District War Memorial Swimming Pool.
This week, crews began the soft demolition, with work taking place by hand. Hard, or mechanical, demolition begins next week.
All works are expected to be finished by Friday, December 20, while fill and landscaping works will begin after Christmas.
The works are serving an as an interim measure as council seeks further funding for a new pool.
In September, council announced the demolition and rebuild plans, pending funding.
“While there will be some inconvenience during the demolition, we are working to ensure that safety and environmental considerations, such as dust suppression and noise control, are prioritised,” Cr Rob Amos said at the time.
“We appreciate the public’s patience and co-operation during this transition.
“This is the next step forward in our efforts to bring a new pool to Rochester.”
