Rochester Town Market returns this weekend, Sunday, January 21, after a 15-month absence.
Rochester Business Network secretary and market co-ordinator Milly Cain was thrilled the market was returning to the town after 15 months.
“The market draws visitors to the region that spend money within the town, not just at the market, but then hopefully encourages those visitors to return time and again,” Ms Cain said.
“Tourism is a vital part of Rochester’s economic recovery from the floods, and events like the monthly market are a significant facet to encouraging visitors.
“Importantly, many stallholders are local Rochester business owners/residents, so sales from their stall at the market then help circulate money back through the town as they spend where they live.
“Residents enjoy coming together to support local events and businesses, and it’s a great way to catch up and chat.
“Social interaction is essential for mental health, and the market creates a relaxed, casual atmosphere to check in on each other.”
The market allows locals, residents and vendors to come together to sell and purchase goods while supporting independent businesses.
Everything from A-to-Z is available at the market, such as chopping boards, homewares, kitchen goods, baby clothes, candles and even items for the outdoors, such as furniture using reclaimed furniture, flowers and plants.
“We also have food vendors with coffee, milkshakes, doughnuts, hot dogs and a barbecue breakfast,” Ms Cain said.
The markets are on the third Sunday in January, February and April.
Meanwhile, March is a little different, where the market is on the third Saturday to coincide with a special Rochester event.
The market is at the Rochester Skate Park, corner of Gillies and Campaspe Sts, and starts at 9am and finishes at 1pm.
