Residents had to dig out their candles and torches when a power outage on Tuesday, November 12, impacted more than 4700 properties in Moama and its surrounds.
Around 6.55pm, Essential Energy contacted customers to inform them of the unplanned outage.
The cause of the incident was a fault on the electricity network, attributed to wildlife on wires.
Essential Energy said crews worked quickly to find the issue and restore the power before 9pm.
“To keep the community safe, safety equipment operated automatically after a fault was detected at the Moama Zone Substation,” an Essential Energy spokesperson said.
“Crews were dispatched immediately and worked to isolate, make safe and complete the necessary repairs. Power was restored to all customers by 8.50pm.
“It has been reported wildlife (came) into contact with the high-voltage electricity network, causing the outage.”
