A building was destroyed in a blaze at the historic Mitchelton Winery near Nagambie on Sunday morning.

Emergency services were called at 10.17am on Sunday, February 26, to a residential property at the winery.

When firefighters arrived 10 minutes later the house was fully involved, with the fire brought under control at 10.46am.

Firefighters had to use breathing apparatus to fight the blaze due to the intensity of the fire and the smoke.

A CFA spokesperson said five people were evacuated from the house when the fire started.

None of the people were injured.

The cause of the fire is being investigated. The fire is not believed to be suspicious.

The blaze comes six months after the winery was inundated with water during the Goulburn River floods in October 2022.

Firefighters also responded to a small blaze just downriver at Chinaman’s Bridge, where a small grass fire was extinguished.
