This month, a complimentary roll of purple compostable bags will be delivered to all Greater Shepparton households.

Since the introduction of the bags in 2016, contamination rates have continued to drop significantly for the green lid bin.

“The delivery of purple compostable bags has significantly contributed to the success of composting in our municipality,” council director infrastructure Gary Randhawa said.

“It has not only saved ratepayers’ money, but it also has tangible benefits for our environment and economy.”

Mr Randhawa has encouraged residents to use only the council-provided bags as they meet the strict Australian standards and are specifically designed to break down in the composting process.
