The Cobram Quilters Club’s ‘Quilts on the Murray’ event has been hailed a massive success.
Held on Saturday, November 11 and Sunday, November 12 at the Yarroweyah Memorial Hall, the 13th Quilts on the Murray was the first time the event had been held since lockdowns.
The event was attended by both males and females, who could enjoy the roughly 83 quilts on display and browse the pop-up stores and enjoy refreshments.
Antique quilts were a particularly popular addition to this year’s display.
Maureen Kania won first prize in the Members’ Choice, Large Quilt category with her Bargello Quilt.
Cobram Quilters Club president Marg Andrew won first prize in the Members’ Choice, Small Quilt category for her beautiful Dragon Flies.
Ms Andrew also won first prize in the Public Viewers’ Choice category.
With her Hexagon Quilt, Fiona Carruthers won first prize in the Public Viewers’ Choice, Large Quilt category.
The event was designed to promote quilting and the creative arts, display the artistic talent of group members and give locals a lovely day out.
Ms Andrews said the event was a great experience.
“We had a fantastic weekend,” she said.
“The people attended the event, and we had many positive comments. People were enthusiastic about the displays. People loved it.”
The group comprises about 30 individuals of varying skill levels who meet at the Cobram Community House every second Friday of the month and at Yarroweah Memorial Hall every fourth Sunday.
The group is well known regionally for donating quilts to people in need.
Recipients of donations include flood victims in 2022, victims of house fires and the snuggly quilt program at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne.
