Murchison’s 2024 Neighbour Day event intends to be a smashing hit, with free tennis and brunch at the Murchison Tennis Club.

Neighbour Day is all about getting out and getting to know the community, so residents are encouraged to walk, run or ride to the event and strike up a conversation with any neighbours they bump into on the way.

The tennis club will be in charge of the barbecue, and coffee will be provided by Murchison’s travelling café, the King Billy Coffee van.

A free bacon and egg sandwich and coffee will be available for the first 50 residents, with more available for purchase.

The planning committee kept this year’s theme, Create Belonging — Share Belonging, close to heart by planning an event that everyone in the community could enjoy, regardless of age or skill level.

“It’s an event that the whole community can take part in. You don’t have to play tennis, but everyone can enjoy a free barbecue and coffee,” Mr Caldow said.

Tennis courts will be available for use, and anyone without their own can use tennis equipment free of charge if they would like to play.

The Murchison planning group has organised the event with funding from Greater Shepparton City Council’s community planning implementation fund.

Local businesses such as the Murchison Lions Club, Printworks and Murchison Bakery will support the day.

The event will run from 9.30am to 11.30am on Sunday, April 21, at the Murchison Tennis Club, 56 River Rd, Murchison.
