Recruitment event to display jobs for people who care

Opportunity: Workforce Australia Local Jobs Employment Facilitator Brendan Sheridan says there are great employment opportunities in the care industry.

The care sector is one of the biggest industries across the Goulburn and Murray valleys, and it will only grow, but even for its present size, there aren’t enough people working in it.

That’s where the Goulburn Murray Local Jobs Recruitment Event comes in.

To be held in Shepparton on Friday, November 17, the event aims to match prospective workers with employers to help fill gaps within the sector.

“It could be people changing careers, or it could be mums and dads returning to work,” Goulburn Murray Local Jobs Employment Facilitator Brendan Sheridan said.

“The care sector in the Goulburn Murray, it’s our biggest employment sector by a long way.

“It’s probably the biggest growing sector requiring the most people going forward. There are enormous opportunities.”

The event will provide an opportunity for short job interviews to take place on the day, with participating employers encouraged to offer employment to individuals on the spot.

Mr Sheridan said some of the positions available include kitchen and laundry assistants, home and personal care workers, disability support workers and enrolled and registered nurses.

“The thing about the care sector is that it’s such a rewarding sector to work in,” he said.

“Bring your resume along, if you need help with it we’ve got people who can help you.

“It’s open to anyone. Anybody. General public. Anybody can come along.”

The event is organised by Workforce Australia Local Jobs, which is funded by the Federal Department of Employment and Workplace Relations.

“This is a fantastic event for community members to connect directly with local employers in a relaxed environment to explore vast employment opportunities available in the care and support sector,” Mr Sheridan said.
