With changes to bin collection to be rolled out across the municipality by March 2024, and the introduction of the new purple-lidded bin, the News asked a few residents what they thought of the changes.

For me, it's not going to be worth it.
I don’t use a lot of glass, and the little (red) bin needs to be taken weekly.
For it to be changed to fortnightly, that’s not going to work.
Especially when my grandkids stay over, they have a lot of rubbish that must go in the red bin.
Too many people will dump their rubbish in other people’s bins or the bush.
You’ll have rubbish contaminating other bins.
It’s silly.
I hope it doesn’t change, please.

I think that it’s rubbish. We don’t need a glass bin. That’s what the recycle bin’s for.
To change the red bin to once a fortnight is also ridiculous.
We’re a large family of six and our red bin is full every week.
This new system’s out of touch with what people actually need.
I don’t remember seeing anything from the council about it; as ratepayers, we weren’t asked.
It’s ridiculous, and I think most Shepparton residents would agree with me.

It’s absolutely stupid.
People like me who live out on large blocks, we barely put anything into our green bin; that all goes out to the chooks.
It might work for people in town, but we’ve got more landfill than anything else.

We don’t have much glass, so we do not need a bin for glass; the council wants it separate, but it will cost a huge amount.
The other thing is that the red bin is only going to be emptied every second week, and that’s a big hassle for us because we’ve got a small red bin, and it’s full every week. That means it’s going to stink.
I don’t know if they asked the ratepayer what they wanted, because if they had talked to me, I would’ve said I needed the red bin emptied weekly.
I don’t need a bin for glass because we hardly have any glass. That’s just my view. I don’t know how it affects other households.

I’ve seen it in another council where my daughter lives; a large bin only gets a quarter full of glass.
I don’t need a bin for glass. I wouldn’t use it that much. It seems like a waste.
The red bin is always full, especially when you have children.
If you’ve got a big family, it needs to be emptied weekly.
