Returning home a waiting game in Seymour

Friends indeed: After losing her mobility scooter to the floodwaters, Dawn Guttridge has been lent one by colleague Jan Kennedy.

Although she experienced a scary evacuation ordeal in the floods that hit Seymour recently, Dawn Guttridge is focused on recovery.

“I evacuated myself through the water. I just rolled up my pants, carried my shoes and walked along, walked up the road and yelled out,” she said.

At that point, Ms Guttridge was offered some welcome help from the son of a long-time friend. That assistance was just the start of some overwhelming support she received from the Seymour community.

“I’ve been so looked after by people,” she said.

With her house damaged by flood water, Ms Guttridge is staying with friends and unsure how long it will be before she can return home.

“It will happen when it happens,” she said.

Seymour residents Mathew O’Keefe, Dave Palmer and others helped remove the carpets from her home last week, but the full extent of the damage is yet to be assessed and Ms Guttridge is philosophical about her predicament.

“We can’t dwell on this, we just have to keep going,” she said.
