An intersection near Strathmerton will undergo a safety review after appeals by the community.

On Monday, March 3 Road Safety Minister Melissa Horne confirmed the Department of Transport and Planning will review the Lorenzs Rd - Murray Valley Hwy intersection with a view to identifying any safety improvements.

Minister Horne added that the Department will then undertake any identified minor upgrade works at the intersection.

State Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell welcomed the commitment as a good first step, but reinforced the need for the Victorian Government to commit funding should major upgrades be required.

“Locals will be relieved to hear that the Victorian Government has committed to performing an inspection and making minor safety upgrades to the intersection where Lorenzs Rd joins the Murray Valley Hwy,” she said.

Ms Lovell appealed to the Victorian Government to improve road safety at the intersection in a constituency question on Thursday, February 6.

She urged Minister Horne to commit funding for safety improvements at the intersection.

State Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell has welcomed the review.

In her response, Minister Horne also confirmed the Department is finalising the design and development of safety improvements for the intersection of Murray Valley Hwy and the nearby Labuan Rd.

Funding has been allocated from the Federal Black Spot program for the development and delivery of the safety improvements and works are planned to commence in mid-2025 pending weather conditions,” she said.
