State Member for Shepparton Suzanna Sheed says advocating for more flood recovery measures and the fixing of regional roads will be her most urgent tasks should she be re-elected.
Ms Sheed is aiming to win a third term at the November 26 Victorian poll.
She said roads had been “in disrepair” for quite some time despite funding pledges and reassurances from the Victorian Government things would be fixed.
“The damage that has been done to our roads during the flood has been extensive and I’m not sure the repair work is up to a high enough standard,” Ms Sheed said.
“I don’t doubt that repair works are being carried out — we often see roadworks in progress — but I am concerned about the standard and longevity of such repairs.
“I have been calling for improved roads for all of regional Victoria because we all use the roads outside our electorate as much as our local roads.”
She said roads were a major concern before storms and floods caused major potholes and issues across regional Victoria.
“After questioning Roads Minister Ben Carroll about the disrepair of Doyles Rd (in Shepparton) in August, we saw $3 million in road pavement rehabilitation on Doyles Rd between Channel Rd and Poplar Ave,” Ms Sheed said.
“This is a vital transport route and while works are still being carried out, new potholes are emerging due to flood damage.
“One of my first tasks, should I be re-elected, is to get on with our flood recovery measures, with special emphasis on fixing our roads.”
